JAZZ , ROCK AND SAMI THEATER

The flagship of local cultural life is the regional theater, Nordland Teater. They tour throughout the county, and have a permanent stage in the theater's production facilities in Mo i Rana center. But in addition to the publicly funded theater, the city has rich cultural life in the semi-professional and voluntary sector.

The Nordland Theatre's productions are significant. Virtually all of their productions are performed on one of the stages in their theater building, and most of the productions have their rehearsals and premieres in Mo i Rana. The city's inhabitants are therefore an avid theater audience. The largest in scope is the Winter Light Festival, which is held every year in January. The festival has content from both NT's productions and a significant proportion of visiting theater productions and concerts, and is definitely the winter's cultural highlight.

The annual festival, Smeltedigelen, is well known in Norway. It is normally held in October, and offers a colorful mix of national and international qualities in jazz, rock, blues, world and related genres. The festival is organized by a foundation created by the club, 4/4 Forum for rhythm and tone. The club also as an organizer of individual concerts the rest of the year.

Every year at the end of August, Verket, a two-day outdoor summer festival on Revelneset, is arranged a fifteen minute walk from the city center. The festival gathers several thousand, and on stage is a combination of current bands and artists from the Nordics, and some more international stars. Very popular is the Verket's children's festival, Underverket, where the youngest can get in close contact with stars they usually watch on TV.

But we have so much, much more! Hemnesberget has its highly acclaimed jazz festival, and in 2016 the organizing club, Hemnes Jazz Club, was named jazz club of the year by the Norwegian Jazz Forum. In addition, Hemnesberget celebrates boating life on the fjord with its popular festival Båt & Fjord.

Out on the coast, the internationally known Træna Festival in July is the icing on the cake. Summertime, there is a high level of activity throughout North Helgeland, and Nesna's festival Sjyen began to gain a foothold before the pandemic put an end to most things. North of Mo i Rana, an annual two-day country festival, Svartisfestivalen, is held in August.

Mo i Rana has a good music and culture school offer, both municipal and private. The municipal cultural school has as many as 24 different offers, from viola and flute, to percussion and theater. The private PRIMA music school is led by music teacher Violetta Sørensen, and offers a number of musical instruments.

A third alternative is Vilja Musikk, which offers lessons in singing and voice coaching, as well as an exciting offer as an organizer of intimate concerts for up to 30 people.
