A SECONDARY TO BE PROUD OF
THE ARCTIC CIRCLE SECONDARY SCHOOL
Mo i Rana's upper secondary school is located on a hill north of the town. The early years the school was called Mjølan VGS. But after three upper secondary schools were merged and later co-located into one strong unit with around 300 employees and 1150 students, a new and arctic name was both right and reasonable. After the merger, the school has gone through a rapid development of the building facilities, and the last building steps were completed in 2020.

The upper secondary school in Mo i Rana is one of the largest and most resourceful schools in the county. A number of the teaching rooms are state-of-the-art, and the school's close contact and cooperation with local industry and the business world characterizes the school.

Study specialization provides the broadest basis for further studies at colleges and universities. Depending on which program area and which program subjects you choose, you will be able to obtain general or special study skills.​ The student can choose between three program subjects: Science, language, and society and economics.
​
Study specialization with technology and research teachingis one of the exciting educational offers at PVGS. Here, particular emphasis is placed on developing students curiosity, creativity and interdisciplinary understanding, with technology and research as central elements. The students research will take place in collaboration with business and institutions outside the school, including many of Mo i Rana's industrial companies.

Health and youth developmentis a line choice for young people who like to work both with and together with other people. Care and care are central concepts, and the choice of career path points in a number of directions: child and youth worker, healthcare worker, ambulance worker, health secretary, dental health secretary, pharmacy technician, podiatrist, orthopedic technician and skin care professional

Dramais a study preparatory education program that gives students general study skills. In drama, the students learn about acting technique, direction and theater production, interaction and about dance expression. Pupils who take this line of choice will develop their artistic and creative skills. PVGS has had a drama line for many years, and collaborates a lot with Nordland Teater Ung.

Restaurant and food studiesis a profession where people are shouted at, both in hospital kitchens, in hotels and in restaurants. PVGS has had this choice of line for several decades and is highly recognized. Here, students receive education about diet, foodstuffs and nutrition, preparation and serving of food, processing of raw materials, food and drink, about food traditions and about health-promoting lifestyles and hygiene

Building and Constructionis a line choice for young people with a practical and useful sense. The school's teaching premises are well equipped, and PVGS can show good feedback on both student and staff surveys. This line choice is fundamental for both carpentry and plumbing. The school has developed its own target and strategy document with the main focus on professional learning and development. PVGS sets clear goals, and has a clear direction for the work to create an ever better school for the school's students.

Electrical engineering and computer technologyis a field of study with a lot of attention in Mo i Rana. Both the upcoming battery cell factory and an ever-increasing digitization and automation in the established industry create a strong need for skilled workers in these, and not least students who have had close proximity to the industry during education and training.

Technology and industrial subjectsis another exciting subject that targets both the industry in Mo i Rana and the world at large. The joint program subjects Construction and control engineering, productivity and quality management, and production of services, will contribute to a broad, technical subject platform that is in demand in many industries, and which enables more flexible use of labor in these industries.

Information technology and media production is a good line choice for young people who are creative, interested in IT, networks and software as well as visual forms of expression and communication. Typical workplaces after graduation in information technology are IT operating companies and IT departments in various businesses.

Sports subjects is particularly designed for young people who are interested in sports, health and physical activity. Here, the student will participate in varied training in addition to any special training in their own sport. The student must be happy to train and willing to bring training clothes to school every day. Common program subjects in sports are training management, sport and society, training theory and activity theory. The student can choose specialization within the program subjects elite sports, non-professional sports and outdoor life.
